Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has heated up the race towards AI superintelligence by restructuring the company’s artificial intelligence division with the main aim being to develop artificial superintelligence, that is, intelligence that is far beyond what humans are capable of.

After a poaching frenzy that’s brought in talent from rival firms like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, Zuckerberg announced a team of nearly two dozen researchers in an internal memo.

In the memo, Zuckerberg called Wang the "most impressive founder of his generation" and said that former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman would "partner" with Wang to lead the MSL team. The new unit will encompass Meta's existing teams that focus on developing AI models and AI products. It will also include Meta's fundamental AI research (FAIR) team.
