Wind-whipped wildfires have prompted evacuations of people in the Carolinas as at least 170 fast-moving blazes have scorched more than 4,200 acres of tinder-dry vegetation, threatening homes and businesses Sunday.

Crews are battling wildfires in North and South Carolina amid dry conditions and gusty winds and evacuations have been ordered in some areas.

"Red flag warnings persist bringing gusty winds, low relative humidity, dry fuels and shifting winds. Firefighters are working to contain the fires throughout the following forests and districts," says the U.
