Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego is projected to beat Republican rabble-rouser Kari Lake in the race to become Arizona’s next U.S. senator after Lake seemed to struggle to win over moderate and independent voters.

PHOENIX — Rep. Ruben Gallego defeated Kari Lake in the U.S. Senate race in Arizona. The Associated Press, CNN and Fox News, as well as other news outlets, called the race for Gallego on Monday night.

Democrat Ruben Gallego has been elected Arizona’s first Latino U.S. senator, defeating Republican Kari Lake and preventing Republicans from further padding their Senate majority.
