Several major airports were experiencing delays on Wednesday, and smaller airports were at risk of losing service altogether by the end of the week.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it was slowing flights at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport because of a “reported local telephone company equipment issue.” The same problems were also impacting Dallas Love Field, according to the agency, which said the issue did not involve FAA equipment.
Flights are available starting 160 days from their departure date. DelVecchio suggests buying six months before travel. When it gets closer to the time of travel, more customers will be searching for the same flight, thus driving up the price.
Flights were delayed and canceled Friday, including at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, after the FAA grounded flights in this city over safety concerns.
The FAA said on its website the ground stops will last until 5 p.m. and the probability that the ground stops are extended is between a 30 and 60% chance.
