The Buffalo Sabres have initiated a massive shakeup on Monday by moving out Kevyn Adams and bringing in an experienced replacement.

The Sabres promoted Jarmo Kekalainen, former Columbus Blue Jackets GM, from a senior advisory position to general manager.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen is back in charge of an NHL team once again. The Buffalo Sabres promoted Kekäläinen to GM on Monday as they fired Kevyn Adams.

Jacob Melanson made his season debut on Sunday, skating in his second career game. His addition to the lineup did not help the Seattle Kraken enough to defeat the Buffalo Sabres.

As Canucks insider Iain MacIntyre reported, Hughes’ camp did not provide teams with assurances that an extension would be forthcoming. Perhaps that was the key issue that kept the Sabres from pursuing this deal any further. “The one thing I made certain about, under no circumstances could we guarantee a contract extension with anyone.”
