Immigration and Customs Enforcement is looking to roll out a controversial ID card pilot program for illegal immigrants as early as this summer.

The program is free and open to Nassau County residents only. The ID cards will be produced on site and available in minutes. No appointment is necessary.

When Richmond created its ID card for undocumented residents, it was only trying to help. But one digital security expert believes their good intentions simply aren't enough.

The card will also replace locally issued identification and/or homemade notes some many have relied on to show their loved one has a developmental disability, officials said.

The IRS was responsible for developing and implementing the program to provide identification cards to about 150,000 employees at the Treasury Department.
