The updated view allows you to swipe the carousel to see all recent screenshots, downloads, camera photos, and more, complete with a preview of the file, its name, and file type/extension.

Recently saved and opened files are shown right at the top of the main interface. If you think the file you’re after might be in this batch, tap See all to view additional recent files.

More excitingly, the Link to Windows app will now also allow you to view recent files and access your PC’s clipboard on your phone.

If you're on the right Windows 11 beta, you can go to File > Recent in Notepad to access recently opened files.

File Explorer already has a recent-items section in the Quick Access section. But this one's better.
