A court in South Korea has issued a warrant for the official arrest of President Yoon Suk Yeol. He was previously impeached after a failed attempt to impose martial law, Yonhap reports. The Seoul Western District Court issued the warrant on charges that Yoon led the uprising and abused his power when he declared martial law on December 3.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok reiterated on Monday his call for government agencies to avoid physical confrontation while attempting to execute an arrest warrant against impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol for his failed martial law bid.

The political crisis in South Korea is only continuing to intensify and will not be resolved with Yoon’s detention.

Yoon, who was impeached and suspended from office in December, is the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested.
