The inspector general's office already conducted a review in 2022 into Milley's actions as Joint Chiefs Chairman but closed the investigation without charges or recommendations for punishment.

GOP senators are renewing calls for the Pentagon’s IG to investigate alleged misconduct by former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley.

Milley stated, “General Li, I want to assure you that the American government is stable, and everything is going to be OK. We are not going to attack or conduct any kinetic operations against you.

He did. On Jan. 3, 2020, the Iranian general was killed in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport. The fallout was immediate. Iranian groups put a price on General Milley’s head.

The Pentagon said that it's revoking the security detail for former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley and ordering a review to determine if the retired general's rank should be re-evaluated.
