In his statement, the North Carolina Republican alluded to two Democrats-turned-independents — Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. He said that politicians “who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise, and demonstrate independent thinking are becoming an endangered species.”
