There's a new surprise team in the hunt for former Red Sox third baseman and star free agent Alex Bregman, according to two reports.
Welcome to "Tigers Tidbits", a quick look around baseball as we are closing in on the holiday season and the free agent market on Detroit's side, as far as offensive players go, has been slow.
The lefty ace is entering his final year under team control with the Tigers, with whom Skubal says he wants to be with "for a very long time." The Tigers have exclusive negotiating rights with Skubal until the end of the 2026 season and could come to a long-term agreement,
“Last year, the Detroit Tigers offered Alex Bregman a six-year, $171.5 million deal. He reportedly asked for an opt-out in that deal after 2025, but the Tigers were only willing to put the opt-out after 2026. Bregman then asked for the Tigers to up the total money on the deal, but they declined.
The Chicago Cubs may or may not be interested in signing Alex Bregman to a long-term deal, but one current slugger sees the benefit.
Earning his third-career All-Star season in this past campaign, Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462 with 18 homers. And in an apparent attempt to recruit the veteran to his team, Cubs’ infielder Ian Happ outlined a particularly good fit between Bregman and the team’s existing batting order.
The Boston Red Sox are expected to undergo significant change heading into the 2026 MLB season. After returning to the postseason this year, their run was cut short with a quick exit at the hands of the New York Yankees in the AL wild card round.
