Four workers have died, and a search operation is ongoing to rescue five others after an avalanche struck the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand in northern India, Anadolu Ajansi reported officials said Saturday.

One of the 48 workers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), who were rescued from the debris of an avalanche that hit Uttarakhand's Chamoli on Friday, died during treatment for injuries. Seven are yet to be retrieved.
