Those include several new mural crosswalks added throughout downtown last year in hope of increasing visibility of crossings for pedestrians, as well as the Thornton Park swan-adorned crosswalk.

Sarasota resident Christopher Covelli helped city commissioners approve the rainbow crosswalk in 2021. At the time, Covelli was the vice president of Project Pride. He shared his frustration at state leaders and FDOT for now removing it.
