The Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland 2025 was unveiled last night at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, bringing exciting news for London's culinary scene. A total of ten London restaurants were awarded their first Michelin star, while two establishments elevated their status to two stars.

Emma and Mark McClean moved to the area five years ago and Mr McClean reckons the place has "a Formby vibe about it", referring to the beach town which has often accommodated Premier League stars, including former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. "It's not as big. I think it's a better place to live."

With a bunch of new Michelin stars dished out this month (and a few taken away), there are now a whopping 85 restaurants in London that have been deemed worthy of Michelin star status.

A vegan restaurant in London has become the first in the UK to be awarded a Michelin star. Several other restaurants, including one serving The Ritz hotel in London, were also awarded stars at a ceremony in Glasgow on Monday.

There are a total of 220 Michelin star restaurants in the UK and Ireland, including 10 three star, 29 two star and  181 1 star.

London’s world-famous Ritz Restaurant and the innovative Soho venue Humble Chicken have both been awarded two Michelin stars. The Ritz Restaurant, led by the much-loved chef John Williams, earned its first star in 2017 and many had tipped it to move up to two.

Plates London becomes the first vegan restaurant in the UK to earn a Michelin star, highlighting the rise of plant-based fine dining and global recognition of vegan gastronomy.

London restaurants Oma, AngloThai, Lita, 64 Goodge Street, Cornus, Caractere, Row on 5, Dosa, Plates and Mauro Colagreco at Raffles London have each been awarded a Michelin star in the 2025 guide. The standout accolade might be for Plates, which has become the first vegan restaurant in the UK to win a Michelin star.
