The bevel shader mode in Blender Cycles is a very powerful tool you can use for any hard surface modelling. You can add a beveled effect without the hassle of adding more resolution or encountering overlaps and geometric errors. This is a render effect and is limited to Cycles for now but another great thing about this is that you can bake it to a normal map!
