Nickel Plate Road 765 is a restored excursion steam locomotive based in Fort Wayne, Indiana and cared for by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. The locomotive pulls several public passenger excursions each year. Some of the most popular are the Tristate Steam Excursions, operating from Edon, Ohio to Hillsdale, Michigan and return. Yesterday we talked about C&O 2716 and her short time in excursion service on the Southern Railway due to firebox problems. When she went out of service, there was still a schedule to keep so the Southern went looking for another locomotive to fill the void. Nickel Plate Road No.765 at Pleasant Lake Depot Pleasant Lake, Indiana Pleasant Lake's historic train depot, also known as the New York Central Railroad Depot, was built in 1882 by the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, was a vital hub for passenger and freight trains. Known for its Gothic Revival style, this one-story frame building is now preserved by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
