Soldiers at Fort Rucker conducted a decompression sickness exercise Aug. 28. Using the Army’s only hypobaric chamber the Department of Aviation Medicine can qualify Soldiers for certain special activities and high altitude operations. During this qualification there is a risk the Soldier may suffer from decompression sickness, similar to a diver ascending to the surface too quickly, and will require treatment.
