The Windrush generation refers to people who moved to Britain from Commonwealth countries between 1948 and 1973. Britain needed rebuilding after WW2 and had a shortage of workers. Most of the economic migrants came from Caribbean countries like Jamaica and Trinidad. The original group came on the Empire Windrush with 1,027 people on board.
